Turf. Turfgrass is an important component of many landscapes. Research has shown that landscapes support diverse, abundant, and intact bee communities in New York, California, and Ohio. In fact, the abundance and diversity of bees visiting home landscapes have been observed to approach, and even exceed, numbers in nearby natural and/or agricultural.

Depart- ment of Agriculture has led to improve- ments in the major turfgrasses used on golf courses. For example, the USGA has sponsored research in Georgia since and at Rutgers University since Grass Varieties BERMUDAGRASS.

Characteristics: Warm-season grass - fine to medium leaf texture, dark green, dense and low growing via rhizomes and stolons some varieties tolerate very low maintenance, while others produce lawns of exceptional beauty when given extra care - root system is extensive and very deep.

Recommended Usage: Best adapted to hot, dry or tropical climates - .Dr. Bill Meyer, turfgrass breeder, joined the program in Under the leadership of Dr. Meyer, the Rutgers turfgrass program has evolved into the leading turfgrass breeding program in the world. It also maintains the largest germplasm pool of cool-season turfgrasses available for breeding.
